Hey everybody; Looking for any help on a problem with my fathers mazda. During stops on muggier days and wet ones on occasion the car will loose rpm and want to but not always stall, or sputter. we know it is not the alternator or plugs, my brother in-law suggests a new timing belt. The car has @95,000 km on it, any ideas? glen a gibson glenagibson@hotmail.com |

Hi Glen,
A new timing belt isn't going to help, unless the problem is consistent. Based on it happening when it it's muggy or wet, I would first, and perhaps obvious, check the air filter and make sure it's clean. Outside of that, I would look to the MAP sensor, with the dampness it may be giving false readings, which would give the conditions you're describing. First thing though, pull the ecu fuse to reset the computer. It will run a little rough for a little bit, as the ecu relearns everything again, but it may just sort out the problem. Try that first and let us know how it works out. Might as well try the cheap and easy stuff first ![]() |
