The standard fit xenon headlight in my 6 have an intermitant fault, i have swopped over the lamps, control module ect but it still fails, sometimes after a few months of working okay. I have opened up the unit and cannot find any slack connections. Can you buy the H.V.transformer?, or has anyone out there got one with a smashed one i can use the wiring and transformer from.

You can buy replacement ballasts, it's probably a lot cheaper to get an aftermarket one. Search for Aftermarket HID systems and see if you can find a compatible one.
It's pretty rare that they go bad though, especially in new cars. Is your car out of warranty? |

ahh ya the classic works when you don't want to thing
![]() I think the only other part in the system is the ignitor, which is like a capacitor of sorts, otherwise if you've checked the connections and they are good, you should have no problem. Have you tested the harness with a multi meter? |

Yes, I think you are correct about the ignitor, as i have split the unit and checked as far as i can, but it would be easier if it failed totaly that is why i was hoping to pick up a damaged one, tried the salvage yards but so far no luck

Just reading replies re the Xenon Headlight problem,
I have a similar problem, but my one Xenon was flickering and completely going out. it would then come back on when switched on and off and do the same again. I have had the Ignitor cahnged under warranty, which seems to stopped the going out problem, but not the flickering. Mazda now want to change the bulb, which will cost me. They have not even mentioned checking the Ballasts. any other ideas? |

Hmm for Graeme, I would say it's the Cap, but for Rob, since you've had your CAP replaced and it's still happening, I would check the lamp socket itself. if any moisture got in there, it would rust out the contact and that could cause the flickering.
Components of HID systems rarely go, and when they do, there is usually a specific reason. |

Have you tried swopping over the lamps and/or ballasts, you can get to the lamps easier by taking the splash guard off inside the wings but you need to remove the bumper to get to the ballasts you can take them
out without removing the headlight Quote:
