Default Anyone have trouble with thier gas cap?

Hey guys

I've had to have my gas cap replaced 3 times now, I keep getting a check engine light, and when I take it in, they tell me it's the gas cap then replace it.

Month later it happens again, and it's the same thing. It's getting annoying.

Any insights?

it happened to me once, but after they replaced it it hasn't happened again.

Maybe the problem is the fuel filler pipe and not the gas cap?

The new cars can detect the slightest air leak. PITA, but its all about fuel economy

I would say Harpoon is right, no way that many gas caps would be faulty.

Huh, funny you mentioned this as I had a similar problem. A couple gas caps, and then they found that there was a small break in one of the welds of the filler. Once they replaced it it never happened again.

I'd get them to look a little harder next time

On my 5th one!! had to have it replaced a couple days ago. I'm starting to think it has nothing to do with the gas cap and they just keep doing it to get me out of there.

One or two I could see, but you got other issues man, there is no way you could go thru that many caps.

I'd go back and ask them to fix it once and for all. It's all good when you're under warranty, but when that runs out, it's going to wind up costing you large because they're too lazy to fix the real problem.
