A friend had a random misfire at idle on his STi. Turns out when he had a recent compression and leakdown test, the person working on the car didn't properly tighten a ground bolt for his coilpacks.
Check for anything that looks out of the ordinary. Check the code to try to narrow it down to one cylinder and look at that one. If you can't pull the info from the codes, try to look at the spark plugs to figure out where the problem is occurring. |

I would have said the same thing, ok, I will say the same thing. It's almost always the coil packs that cause the problem.
If you can't read it, the dealer should be able to tell you what cyllinder it was that caused the code, 10 bucks says a replacement will fix the problem.

I had the same problem dude.. faulty coil pack on #2 cyllinder.
Should be really easy to find and diagnose though. Did your dealer already check that? sometimes they fire, sometimes they don't. Maybe when they tested it was fine, but then craps out once you leave?

Thanks guys, you were right, the cel went off again luckily as I was heading to the dealership, and they saw a misfire on cylinder 3. So they replaced the coil pack, I guess, I think they called it something else. But I hope this has it.
Appreciate the info. |
