I haven't done it personally, but there are a few cars around here that have.

The engine takes well to it, but like any turbo setup, proper installation, and more important tuning are critical to get a reliable system...that won't blow your engine

Default Thanks

Sweet so where can I get a good setup and how much am I looking at spending? Aslso I forgot to ask how well this takes with the 4 speed auto and is it possible to swap-out the 4 speed for a 5 speed? Thanks for all the help. Its nice to be on a forum that talks more about real car upgrades than just adding wings, rims and exshust lol.

If you want a manual car, you'd be better off trading in your current one in on another car. it's very expensive, and begging for problems to try and swap out the tranny.

I'd also consider going with a CAI and Exhaust first and see if that gives you the pep you're looking for. You'll gain some hp and some throttle response, and save quite a bit over going to a turbo system. A good one with proper tuning can be 4 grand plus

Do mazda dealers offer a CAI and sport exhaust. My warranty is a very big issue for me. Also would the extra hp ruin the 4 speed transmission

Mazda does under their Mazdaspeed line. The transmission will have no trouble handling the extra power.. it's not a whole lot.

Sorry for the confusion but I was talking about replacing my automatic 4 for a automatic 5 speed that comes in the sport models. My quesition is how hard would it be to change from the 4 speed auto to the 5 speed auto?

Same difference, and pretty expensive.

Well ok, not nearly as bad as going to a manual so I shouldn't be so quick to shoot it down.

What you need to determine, and only the true car geeks among us, and unfortunately I'm not one of them, could say for sure.

If the housing, connections, alignment all match up, then it should be a fairly easy job to swap them, and now I'm going to go right out on a limb and ask the question, what controls the tranny, is there a computer? where is it?

Ok, I'm not helping.

PM Mindcore, and ask him to read your post, he knows a great tranny guy and was able to get me some info on mine that saved me a bundle. He might be able to help you out.

Ok, after talking it over with my friend, I think crazy might be the right call.

While it will physically fit, they use a different connecting size, on top of that, the ECU for the tranny would have to be replaced, and it will not play well with the rest of the car. IF you could ever get it to work, you would have spent a whole lot of money, and gotten practically nothing in return.

We looked at some quick numbers ( in Canada at least ) and it would most likely be cheaper to trade your car in, and buy another one then to do the work.

Probably not what you wanted to hear.
