Question Undesided on transmission

I am planning to buy a touring model hatchback. 2007 or 2008.
Question>>> Does the auto tranny when driving in manual mode provide the same mpg as a regular manul tranny? In the manual mode are you shifting
by watching the tach?

Even in Manual mode, the gas mileage will still not be as good a real manual, assuming your driving the stick with mileage in mind

Beat me to it! Same answer. A real manual will get better mileage.

+2 whether you shift it yourself or it does it for you, it's still an auto, with the same drivetrain losses.

Manual will always be better.

I agree. Unless you're stuck in traffic all day, I would go with the manual. I've driven the auto before, it's much more boring then the manual

Default much worse......

traded an '04 M3S w "manumatic" with only 14 k mi for an '05 M3S 5spd because of the poor mileage I was getting . Big difference in mpg.

Default '04 vs '05

No real differences that I could discern (my '04 hatchback was that rare yellow
that in a small town compromises your low profile....the '05 had more stuff like xeonons & leather). I liked the '04 touch shift, but mpg was 4-5 mpg lower. I suspect a K&N filter would have helped a little.

Thanks!

I don't think I could ever own a car with out Xenons again. She wound up picking up a great 05 for a decent price. She loves it!

Unless you're in bumper to bumper traffic all day every day, the manual is the way to go

If gas mileage is your major concern, you will save fuel with a manual tranny. I think autos are great for traffic and that's about it. You have so much more control with a manny.
