Question My CX9 has a distortion in windshield

I bought my CX9 in Dec. it's not driven much but in Jan. I noticed a distortion in the windshield(passanger side) local dealer agreed and yesterday replaced windshield, guess what, replacement has same obvious distortion, Mazda dealer in next town says this is normal, he has one on his lot that has the same issue. Has anyone else observed this ? oh yah, Mazda zone rep. has agreed to replace windshield again.I'm told it's due to curve of the windshield.I have owned more than 50 cars in my life and never have seen this before. My next letter will be to the NHTSA.If anyone has seen this let me know.

Not on that model, but I've seen it before. It happens when the windshield doesn't set properly, and runs before it's tempered.

It's not normal, and they probably replaced it with one from the same batch.

Get a new one, it will drive you mental everytime you look thru it!

Yes,I was going to the eye Dr. next because it makes you feel like your on drugs and it draws your attention away from the road to look at the "wave" as everything passes through.Any idea how to keep from getting another "wave" I like the car but it takes 3-4wks for dealer to get replacement, they are always on back order, and at $672 I don't know how many Mazda will spring for.

Ask them to make sure they get a windscreen from a different order batch. There could have been a problem with the machine, and many of them are messed up. A different build date should up your odds.

As for Mazda, if you crash because it distorted your view, it will cost them a lot more then $672. I expect they will be motivated to get it right

I went to my local dealer who's now not a dealer and looked at 9 different cx9,cx7's, they all have some degree of distortion that you can see looking in the driver door, also drove 68mi to nearest dealer and looked at a cx9 on his lot, same passanger side distortion and listened to them say "due to size of windshield this"distortion" is normal.I have filed a complaint with the National Saftey board today, we'll see if anything comes of that.

Well my battle with Mazda continues, after agreeing to again replace my windshield they reversed themselves and say no replacement at this time, they have referred this to engineering for a ruling, seems they have looked at other cx9's and see the distortion. My next step is to either trade cars and take the loss and write mazda off as a bad deal or file a Fl.Lemon law claim and see what happens.I do not recommed anyone buying a 2008 cx9.

Received a supprise call today from Mazda,Engineering continues to say that due to the size of the 08 windshield some distortion is "normal" they will however order an after market glass, have the zone manager at the dealership and if we agree the new glass is acceptable they will install it,all this to make me"happy".They are also replacing the drivers morror due to vibrations(they agree this is an issue on some 08's).I did discuss my next venue was to file a claim under Fl. lemon law,If anyone is considering buying an 08 model please be certain to drve in the bright light and look at the passanger side of the windshield for this defect before you buy.Had I observed this to begin with I doubt I would have made the purchase.

Well I received a call from Mazda today ,rep from either Cal. or Japan will be at dealer on the 14th with a new designed mirror and OEM windshield. They find that the drivers mirror on some 08's does vibrate and Mazda has redesigned the mirror and will be replacing mine.I have no idea if calling Mazda USA or the DOT worked but I'm happy this is going to be resolved.
I will advise after the install.

That's great news. nice to hear that they're taking care of you now.

It's like pulling teeth with them sometimes, but if you keep at it you've proved they will eventually come around.

Follow up on my windshield and mirror. The latest glass is a pc of PPG sound master glass,it has a slight distortion but is 100% better than either pc of Mazda glass. My mirror I'm told had a gear problem that allwed it to"flutter" while driving at town speeds.I now have one of two prototypes in North America that will be replacing the units now on the CX9's.Later this year dealers will receive these for replacement if needed.I had the zone service manager and Mr Sato from Japan working on mycar. My mirror was shipped direct from Japan to Mr Sato for instillation. It has taken over 4 months but Maxda has followed through. If you consider buying a CX9-7 look at the glass and pick one you can live with,I'm told they ALL have some degree of distortion just some are worse than others.

Wow, you have had your troubles with this one haven't you? at least it looks like they're doing everything they can to help you out though.

Honestly, I don't see anything in my windshield. I wouldn't have even guessed it was a problem if you hadn't posted about it.

Don't know if you have an 08 but if you do sit in drivers seat, look out passanger side of windshield from the rvmirror over and move your head(rock) back and forth looking at a fixed object in front of car, you will then see the "wave" the object move,as I said Mazda has agreed they all have some distortion, mine was very bad.I have the touring model w/camera,rear dvd, side mirror warning and I enjoy everything, they have given a lot of options as std equipment it's just a shame they have this windshield issue. I hope the car is around for a long time but with gas being what it is and 22mpg being the best I've gotten I don't know.
