Default BT-50 Fuel Consumption

Hi all. Just bought a BT-50. Wife calls it the BLT [blurry little truck...].
Anyway, I love it, but I am not so sure if it is doing what it should as far as fuel consumption goes.
I changed over from a Nissan Patrol, which had a 4.2liter normally aspirated diesel, from which i could normally expect at least 9km / liter, which works out to 25.4 mpg imperial, or 22.3 mpg yankee gallons.
Now, the BLT is half a tonne lighter, smaller, and posesses all the fancy common-rail computer control, and on a trip at 55-60 mph, I cannot get better than 10 km/liter, even with the wind.

So, all the hype about computer control is rubbish, or I got a dud?
Or could there be a dead sensor, some mal-adjusted turbine, a crook chip, or what?
Oddly enough, I have a friend who has the old [mechanical] 2.5 liter version, and he gets 10 km/liter around town, and 12 or so on a trip.

I reckon that something is not quite right with my BLT, but convincing the dealer to actually get of the Butte and DO something is another matter...
does anyone have any history of taking fuel use numbers with the turbo diesel 3 liter engine. If so, I would love to know how it works for you, so if there really is a problem, I have some evidence to put to the mazda man to get it fixed properly.
Other than that, I love it. Bags of power, possibly too much maybe?
Let me know your numbers....
regards to all,
Mugger

Hi Mugger, welcome to the forum.

Definatly sounds like something is up with your BLT

I'd check the obvious first, air filter, spark plugs, and also reset the ECU afterwards and let it relearn things the right way. I suspect that should get you most of the way there.
