I did a quick search but did not find anything on this...
My brake pads are worn down to the indicators but not quite metal on metal yet. The dealership told me they did not believe the front rotors could be saved. They gave me a quote for the front pads/rotors replaced $550 (us dollars) and the back pads/rotors turned $265. Seems high to me. I have replaced brakes on other vehicles but it has been a few years. Anyone familiar with how difficult a job this is on the RX8? Any major warnings etc....??

Seems high, considering you should be able to pick up rotors at Napa for less then 100 each and if you just go with no name brake pads you're in for maybe bit less then 200.
So..hmm basically 600 bucks for everything brand new, but you have to do the labor.. maybe not so bad. But... unless you're crazy on the brakes, you'd just need pads, that saves a couple hundred, and doing pads and rotors are a pretty easy weekend project. I'm basing my numbers on what it takes for my 7, hopefully an 8 guy will wander by with some actual pricing for you. |

Thanks for the reply. I am doing some pricing on my own as well. It doesn't look like to difficult of a job. I just want to make sure I am not missing something specific on how to remove and reinstall the rotors (the front are def shot)

For the rotors, there is a screw that holds the rotor on ( on mine at least ) and it can be really hard to get off. I found the best way, and it's an old mechanic trick, put as much torque as you can when loosening it, and then hit the head of the screw driver and it will pop loose.
I wasted entirely too much time on my first attempt trying to get that stupid screw off. |

probably way late to answer this, so, what did oyu end up doing.
best way to get that set screw off the front rotors, impact driver. and then don't put it back in, it is purely for holding the rotor to the hub if your wheels are off, once your wheels are on, the lugs hold the rotor to the hub. brake jobs are easy on this car. done it a number of times.
