Default Warranty Ending 2004 RX8

My warranty is set to expire Nov 14th with a limited drive-train coverage for another year. Have any of you had experience with buying extended or additional warranties? Suggestions?

i had one once, and it was near impossible to get them to honor it for work done to the car that was clearly under the extended warranty.

i have found that they are overpriced, and often go un-used. I got suckered on mine...first car purchase...n00b, I got owned on it.

My car still has kits of warranty left, so I haven't thought about it yet, but on my other car a few days before the cut off I got the extended warranty, and it saved me boat loads.

Extended warranties are just like parts, you can make deals, have dealerships compete against each other for the best price. So don't just pay what they tell you to.

When I got mine it was an extra 3 years to 100k KM for my S2K. I was able to get it for $380 bucks down from the $800 asking. In that time I had to replace 7 ( ya I don't know why I had to replace 7 on a 4cyl car??) which were $180 bucks each. So right away I was way ahead. Then there was a couple other minor things that I had done as well. So for me, it was a great buy. Now if nothing happened, I might have felt it was a waste of money, but the peace of mind was there at least...and I have a good relationship with my dealer, they know my car is modded, slammed to the ground, ridden hard and put away wet, but if something broke, they fixed it. If I kept getting denied like L8 says, I'd be pretty PO'd.

So my advice, ask yourself how reliable your car has been so far. Ever had a problem? if not then maybe skip it, if you've had some issues, then find the best deal. It doesn't take long to get your money back.
