Default Oil Leak O_o

I recently purchased an 83 model rx7 SA22C and when roadworthying it have found there is a rapid oil leak from a rotor housing, sorry the details are a little hazy as that is all i have been told by the mechanic so far but i was wondering if anybody could give me some insight into whether this is a common thing with the earlier models or something to worry about??????
i will update this as i find out more about it!!

I would say is "rapid oil leak" is something to worry about.. but it just might be a main seal, which isn't that hard to replace.

Any cracks visible at all? then you'd have serious trouble. Let us know more when you find out.

depends... is the mechanic known for being good w/rotaries? does rapid oil leak mean its dripping oil on the ground (which is bad), or he/she just doesn't realise that the rotary burns oil as part of its normal operation, so they are surprised by oil "disappearing" while driving hard?

thanks for the replies, the mechanic working on it does know alot about rotaries cos hes putting a 12a in his mazda and the oil leak is coming from the front rotor housing as its seal has completely perished. And when i say rapid oil leak im talking real rapid like you start the car and let it idle for 5 mins and there is a puddle of oil under the car the size of your fist!! Not good so i am now looking for a modified rotary engine that will fit in my 1983 SA22C rx7 and with any luck ill find one, unless you guys know of a cheaper effective alternative to fix the engine?? ps engine has done 113,000kms and is the original engine and not wound back! thanks-will

That's low km's for an engine that age. I would look into rebuilding it before I bought another one. Assuming ofcourse, that other then the oil leak you know it's in good shape, apex seals are good, no scoring, etc.

Not sure where you're from, but good rotary's can sometimes be hard to find.
