Default 1992 RX7 Electrical Problem

Two garages had a go at getting this car running after replacing engine and failed.
After it arrived at my mates garage he discovered back rotor tips were damaged.

After repairing rotor and instaling engine it starts after a couple of crank's but is a little lumpy on idle and charge light and oil light stay on.

It is charging battery ok and oil preasure gauge reading ok.

Any one on here com across this problem any help would be greatfuil .

Not alot of info, but off the top of my head it still sounds a little like the alternator to me. I know you've said that the battery is charging OK, but double check your alternator and the loom running from it. As a test, run a 6 or 8 gauge wire from the positive terminal to the output terminal of the alternator and see if that makes any difference. Check all the fuses and grounds too. There should be grounds from the UIM to firewall, and another major ground on the left side (driver's side in LHD cars) of the block in the area of the spark plugs. Additional grounds from the battery to chassis, chassis to engine and engine to battery never hurt either.

Further to what Signal says, I have never seen a charge light come on unless there was either a bad alternator, or a fault in the battery. It's a mystery that's for sure.

As for idle, hows the power above idle? how's your compression? Im thinking it might even be some sort of ECU problem, are you sure they are compatible?

10 bucks says if the lights were on right after the swap, then there is something wrong with the wiring/wrong ecu.

If you checked what the lights are pointing to and they work, it's the only think left.

I have just found out that the ECU has been changed.

Does any one have information on which terminals to bridge on the diagnostics socket to check for fault codes and how to clear faults from the ECU .

Jump from "Ground" to Pin #10. Then turn on the ignition and count the flashes of the CEL on the dash.
To reset, remove the ground at the battery and push on the brake for 30 seconds.
If you need them, here is a list of the codes. On your 1992, all you should need is a piece of light guage wire about 3 inches long and jump from the "Gnd" to "Ten". The pins are labeled under the lid for the diagnositcs box.
Check Engine Light Codes

One suggestion allygt4......
Here in the States we never (technically) had a 1992 model...even though the build dates were early in 1992 (like mine), they were all marketed as 93s. Your profile doesn't say where your from, but I was just thinking it might avoid some confusion and possibly get you more responses if you referred to yours as a 3rd gen RX7 or an FD.
In any event, post up what you find out and good luck.
