Hi Folks,
I Am Posting This To Clear Up Mixed Signals On An Extended Replacement Plan, Of The "egr Valve" By Mazda Canada. I Don't Know If This Is Also Available In The United States. I Was Able To Get A Straight Answer After Calling 3 Mazda Dealers In Toronto. Mazda Will Replace The Egr Valve At No Charge If: #1 The Dash Check Engine Light Is On #2 They Hook Up A Scanner, And Find Error Code 300 Or 401 This Is For The Protege Only. It Is Covered For 7, Yes 7 Years, And With Unlimited Miles. I Had This Very Service Done Today. Note. You Will Have To Pay For The Dealer To Scan Your Car. That Cost Could Be $50 - 100.00. Beats Paying $350.00 To Replace This Item. Hope This Is Of Help To Somebody. Cheers |

I just had this done at Scarborough Mazda for my 2002 (made in Nov/01) Protege 5 and they did not charge for the diagnostic or the "physical exam" - driving the car to experience the symptoms I described. There was no charge at all.
