Took the RX-7 out to the race at the base this weekend... w/the new sway bars, it was like a different car completely. Took a bit to re-learn the car... Still waiting for the official results, but "unofficially" I took second, and my dad took first in our class... The car feels SO much faster now...
My first run: ![]() My 2nd run: ![]() Fastest run: ![]() Was to be my last run, but they guy in front of me spun and stalled out, so I got flagged down by the corner workers for a re-run... Unfortunately it felt like it was shaping up to be my best run: ![]() The re-run turned out to be my worst run of the day, I ended up making MAD mistakes: ![]()

Also got vids of some of my dad's runs... He has a habit of pushing the car TOO far in the first few runs... but somehow he's got the skill to take all the information from screwing it up, and just putting together an amazing lap...
his first run- plowed thru the first slamom, and missed the dog-leg at the second turn around: ![]() 2nd run, still overdriving like crazy, completely loses it in the gates in the 3rd section: ![]() (the car actually stalled, and he got it started and finished w/an okay time... tho the evo behind him nearly caught him at the finish) his 4th run- still driving 13/10ths - really loops it around, almost sliding into the previous section... ![]() Unfortunately for his best run, I was outside the car watching, and he forgot to hit record on the camera... and he put everything together and beat my best time by nearly 2 seconds... he ended up w/ a best time of 105.1 seconds, my fastest was a 106.85. (his fastest was a 111.0 until he turned out that beauty of a lap...) After the competition runs, we did "fun runs"... and I did like 5 or 6 untimed runs (had to pay a dollar a run, but all the proceeds were given to the Airman's Fund on base) I didn't get any video of those, as I had pulled the camera out of the windshield mount before they started, and forgot to put it back in as I was queue'ing up for the first run... but thats not too bad, cos the mount actually fell off during the first run, scaring the BEJESUS out of me!! I woulda been really pissed if my camera dropped onto the dash and then bounced around the cockpit during the run, ehe... Dad said I got into the low 104's in my last cpl "fun runs" by his stopwatch... but I got no proof of those, and they wouldn't have counted in the points race anyways ehe ![]() They also had a couple "Exhibitions"... since it was on the flightline at an airbase, they had an F-16 drag race a super-prepared jaguar race car down the runways... I think the jag won, but I couldn't see the very end of the runways from the grid (they did that during the middle of my run group)... but the F-16 did an awesome flyby over the course after ![]() Also, the main driving instructor for the Las Vegas Metro Police Dept. brought their track-prepared squad car, and tried to chase down the organizer of the event on the course. (I say tried, as he usually puts down the fastest time of day for closed-wheel cars in his AS-classed Mitsu EVO... and this evetn was no exception... he got away )Most fun I've had yet since I started racing... And I've got next sunday to look forward to for the next event, and Tucson, AZ the following week for the Evolution driving school ![]()

Cracking vids! I wish there were similar events here in the UK! (I think they call it 'Autotest' here, but usually required going backwards / stopping / parking etc. too???

they used to do gymkhana here too.. but long before I was old enough to drive... man that vid was amazing! I don't think i could remember that course without much practice, since it reuses so many elements!
autocross and gymkhana used to be the same thing here in the states... but as gymkhana evolved to have all the fancy reversing, etc, autocross evolved to be more like a road course... they were going to have a gymkhana earlier last year here, and I was gonna give it my all... but they cancelled it day of event because of some argument between the organizers and the location owners... after they'd already flown in some gymkhana pro's from japan... apparently the only thing the LVMS owners can get right is NASCAR events... sigh... (don't get me wrong, I loves me some NASCAR... its the only "pro" "sport" I can follow, ehe... I'm complaining about the jackasses at LVMS that screw up every "local" motorsports event they can get their chance at screwing up...)
