nice car. but I wonder about the gas mileage on it.

and as a side note, what do you figure they will do for the next M3. they have leaped into V8 land for this one, where do you go from there. the next step is M5 territory. just a thought. but at one point will they hit the limit on their top shelf "small" car?

I don't think people worry about gas mileage when they buy a car like that.

Good point about where it's heading. Already the 335 is as fast as the last M3, this M3 blows them both away, but what next? V10 in an M3?

I'd like to see them go backwards, or at least offer something else, those M3's of the 80's were some of the purist driving cars you could get, now they just keep adding weight, then adding HP. What's the fun in that?

i guess that was my point. they keep adding the creature comforts to the "high performance" version, making it more streetable.

I am with you, go back to basics with the M3, make it the "enthusiast" car it used to be. The E30 M3 was a pure driver's car, it would serve as a great example of what needs to be in the car. hell, you could even take it as far as get rid of power windows The M3 CSL was one bad ass iteration of the E46 M3. But I think it should be the way the car is from the beginning, light weight, not a Buckhead Betty mobile. I see way too many soccer moms putting around in M3's. Nothing against soccer moms...well maybe a little, but they can do just as good with the top end 3 series.

I'm with you guys. A couple of friends have M3's and as nice as they are, they're boulevard crusiers IMO. Faster then my car, but they both bring them to the track ( since that addiction never goes away ) and while they're quick in a straight line, they eat through brakes, wobble like a whacky shack, and just feel like your tracking a very heavy car.

Then you see E30's there as well, light, nimble, and they just fly around the track with a lot less HP.

Sure, if the only thing I did was sit in traffic an M3 would be a good alternative, but I like to drive, I want my cars to be drivers cars, otherwise I'd just get the Lexus LS460 ( which I want anyway for those aformentioned traffic sittings )

I have no idea where this is going to to, maybe the 1 series will become the new 3, and they just keep driving the price up. Sometimes it's just new for the sake of being new. Why don't automakers just take a great car and make it better, instead of changing it all together?

I think I'm starting to ramble.

E30's make great race cars, in our region, they are the #1 choice for race cars in the grassroots world, the SpecE30 Class is huge in NASA-SE. They have little power, but are so balanced, and easy to drive fast, and are supposed to be a hoot to drive too.
