I end up with track videos from each track weekend, and rather than making a new thread everytime, I am just going to post them here.
This time, video is from Roebling Road Raceway, near Savannah Georgia. The Georgia RX-8 Club joined NASA Southeast for another great weekend, of hot rubber, race gas and tight curves! Roebling is one of my favorite tracks, it really drives almost like one big long corner. The RX-8 really likes this track, once I can get the stones to drop. First one...a fellow RX-8 driver, NASA instructor and current record holder in class at Road Atlanta, and now Roelbing Road, my good friend TrackAddict, riding shotgun, to get me re-calibrated. I had a bad Saturday, spent letting the world pass me. He climbed in, and we went from slow to fast. The old track record for Roebling in TTD, where my car would class, was 1:29:xx, "un-officially" laps were clocked anywhere from 1:27-1:29, so I was happy. I owe it all to him. Sunday-Session 3 Second one, just some nice clean open track, last session of the weekend, only about 6 cars stayed to see the last session. I love open track. It lets you really work on your lines, techniques, and lets you experiment a little, with braking points, and track out points, and not have to worry about other cars should you experiment a little too much. Sunday-Session 4 Enjoy. More to come this next weekend, from the awesome Barber Motorsports Park.

Can't say I blame you! I've always wanted to try Barber, they use if for a lot of mag tests, so I've seen what a lot of cars can do on it, and wouldn't mind knowing where I stack up on it.
These vids are pretty great as well. Have fun out there...this weekend can't come soon enough! |

Excellent vids!
You hit the track often, who would you say is the best organization out there? NASA? I have a coupe co workers that want to do some track days, but I don't want to take any responsibility for them I don't think they need full out training, just a well run, safe day.sorry to junk up your vid post. |

I have also heard very good things about Chin Motorsports, you get more track time than you can handle, anywhere from 3-4 hours a day. I have also heard good things about BMW Club, but BMW will not alloy any convertibles...at all. All three of those groups provide instructors for entry level drivers. Any of them would be a good option. thanks, that is what a custom exhaust and a mid-pipe sounds like. Like a racecar! ![]()

I finally got my pictures from my good friend who was the photographer for our Roebling Road event three weeks ago. They will have to do until tonight when I can download my video from Barber.
![]() ![]() ![]() the nice thing about our group, I am almost always out on track with a good friend in an 8, and we love to play lead follow. truth be told, Phlash, in the VR, could have walked away from me at anytime, but it is more fun to play out there. BMP videos tonight. |

OK, first video is up. Ahead of time, it is a little bright in places, the camera was having trouble with the big changes in light at BMP.
This is the third session on Saturday. We tried to grid early, and managed to be about 5th in line. We were right behind an E46 M3, and we were debating on whether or not he would hold us up, or leave us behind. It was the former. For the out lap, and the next lap and a half, he would drag race us on the straights, and then brake really early, and we would be all over him again. I always tried to maintain a safe distance from him, and I am glad I did. At about the 5 minute mark, you get to see what happens when someone succumbs to too much "pressure". His words. After the session, he came to our paddock space, and apologized, and admitted that it was to much to try and stay in front, he thought he should be faster than me. The best part was, we all called it, after the session, we could tell that he was trying really hard to stay in front of us, and that coming out of turn 5, he tried to get on the power too soon. It was pretty classic. BMW Under Pressure I only got this video off the camera before I started to run out of disk space on my laptop, and as a result, did not get any of the other video off. I am going to work on that tonight. More videos tomorrow.

I have a couple more sessions to post, one I start out following a lady we know in an Exige S on hoosiers and another chasing another 8, just good track vids, no more spins in front of me. I just missed the big accident in our group on Sunday, it happened behind me, to a car I had passed not a lap earlier.

this one is from my friend John, in his 8, chasing me. he is running 275 width Azenis, and Tokico D-Spec shocks on stock springs. just for reference.
Chasing L8 At Barber enjoy. EDIT: ignore this one for the time being, technical difficulties. I get no picture, only sound...I am consulting the owner... Last edited by L8APEX : 10-18-2007 at 02:53 PM. Reason: because my QC sucks... |

I was just showing your M3 spin vid to a buddy of mine, remembered that I forgot to mention....what is with people not knowing how to spin out and stay off the track?
Was it another one of your vids where this happened before? I mean it's amusing to watch, but off he goes, then whopps, here it comes again. I've seen more crashes on the secondary then the primary spin then anything else. That's all I wanted to say..still made me laugh though ![]() |

well, this was an HPDE 2 event, so, not complete n00bs, but not seasoned drivers with lots of seat time. I probably had as much, if not more seat time than most people in the group, and probably should have been in HPDE 3. that said, the driver of the M3 tried to correct the spin, with no luck. Obvisouly. part of the reason, the armco is much closer on the driver's side at that point in the track. self preservation I guess.
I don't know if I have any other vids of big ugly spins like that, one from Roebling has two people going off in front of me, but both of them did what they were supposed to. There was a big crash in HPDE 2, a very similar condition, but involving a blind turn over a crest of a hill. A Locost got light going over the hill, spun, and did a few spins, then was sitting in the track, and got hit by a 993 911. Front to front impact. Both cars were damaged, the Locost got the worst of it. But thankfully, both were trailered in anyway. |
