Unhappy 626 1997 2ltr 16v Gxi Auto Problem.

Hi guys, a big hello to all,im new to this site, and live in the uk,and have a problem with my 626. The car is a 1997 626 gxi 5 door hatch, she is a 2 litre 16valve auto. When i start her up in the morning, she runs fine, about two seconds after starting she starts to belch out thick white smoke, which kinda smells funny, not engine oil,but something like dextron transmittion fluid, some have said it could be the valve stem seals, others say the headgaskets failing,im lost as to the problem,as it clears after a couple of mins, and no smoke at all,as far as i can tell its not using engine oil,but is loosing a tiny amount of coolant, about half a pint a month. It has plenty of power, and goes like a scolded cat{well, its no hotrod, but its not slow!} I have heard that they have some kind of valve between the auto box and the air intake manifold, and that there is a diaphram in it which can split, then its supposed to suck auto fluid into the airintake manifold, which then gets sucked into the combustion chamber and burns ,but if it was, surely it would smoke like hell all the time,im absolutly at a loss as to the root cause of the problem, before i give the head a teardown,is there anyone who thinks they may have an answer to my problem? many thanks andy uk.

It's definitely coolant, but I don't know enough to point you in the right direction. There are a few here that do though...
