Hello everybody.
I just joined the forum and have a specific question. We have had our Premacy for 5 trouble free years but find we miss a CD player. Am I correct that the inbuilt radio panel has all the necessary controls? (the owners manual implies the cd changer was an optional extra) It must be straight forward to fit a changer and wire it up but I can't afford to go to a dealer or specialist. Can some one guide me what second hand unit would be compatible where to mount it and how to wire it up. The model is a GXI registered in May 2000 Thanks in anticipation |

That question isn't as simple as it sounds. Most stock stereo systems have an input for a CD changer. So no need for another head unit if that is what you're getting at.
The first thing I would do is take a look on Ebay for a used one, MUCH cheaper then you could find one at a dealer. Then, if you're relatively handy, you can take out the stock head unit, connect the cable for the cd changer, reinstall, and run the cable to where you want the changer (usually the trunk ) connect and mount the changer and you're all set. Almost ever changer gets power from the same cable, so no need to mess with power wires. Also post up where you are and someone may be able to recommend a good place to buy new that is cheaper then the dealer.

Yes I know I can keep the original radio unit but wanted to know if different makes of remote cd changer have different cable plugs or are they all standard and what socket would be on the back of the mazda unit. Some audio web shops say its a sony based unit others say other makes and seem to offer adaptor cables
Is it a simple "plug and play" if I get the right make unit? Any idea how you get behind the dash or the unit out nothing obvious to unscrew or holes for special tool loki on Fords |
